Folks this is some great news from the world of baseball.
Major League baseball has agreed to transfer the Houston Astros from the National League to the American League. This puts 15 major league ball clubs in each of the two leagues. Squares the corners and makes for natural built in gamesmanship rivalry competition much easier to follow and understand.
The Houston Astros going to the American League West Division pits two Texas teams in the same league of the American League which will generate a super natural automatic in state Texas rivalry and will foster increased crowd draw for games pitting these two teams.
The Texas Rangers already reside in the American League West Division. We might even see the coming back to life the heated rivalries generated and harkening back to the days of The Giants and Dodgers scrapping like two Pit Bulls down to the wire but now starting day one of the season.
The Yankees and the Red Sox will not just be the sports journalist writings but will be on the field give no quarter from day one till the fat Lady sings.
This even steven 15 teams of five (5) teams in each Division gives rise to an elimination of the wild card shenanigans and expanding the playoff for more game with the season winners and second team runnerups of each Division playing hardball within their respective Divisions. Each season from the all-Star break till the end of the season wondering and guessing of who might make the playoffs lends itself to teams playing not sports analyst guesses.
Not a 30 team guess and by gump as to who has an edge for a possible wild card slot for the remaining teams of the 30 teams playing our grand game of baseball.
Scheduling and travel distances are a brutal nightmare like kids trying to find their way through the cornfield mase around harvesting time. Scheduling is a giant puzzle game. Travel distances and expense accounting must be considered along with the above standard outrageous salaries given to too many players.
With the coming of rightful thinking to even up the divisions and with some possible future tweaking the economics sense might return to our game along with competitiveness. The realignment goes the first step in clarifying one part of this needed change for the good of baseball.
Sometimes when things are changed in accordance with good logic it is so simple it is frightening to think we allowed the old thing a my jig to even have its day,
